The purpose of using the boiler valve opposed to the regular garden spigot is simple. The boiler valve is meant to open up all the way, which has 2 purposes. One, it will allow any sediment that has settled at the bottom to leave without clogging it up, and, two, it will allow you to get the the full pressure. A regular garden valve is made to open up only 2/3 of the way and it is configured in a way that allows it to clog easily.
